Free Italian language courses for Ukrainian refugees

at the Dante Alighieri Society

The Dante Alighieri Society is committed to assisting Ukrainian refugees who have fled their country and been welcomed in Italy by many families and by public and private organisations.

All Ukrainian refugees, or persons considered as such, who have left their country to flee the horrors of war, may request the Dante Alighieri Society to provide scholarships for humanitarian reasons if they meet the following requirements:

- Ukrainian citizens or their family members residing in Ukraine before 24 February 2022;

- stateless persons, or nationals of third countries other than Ukraine, and their family members, residing in Ukraine, who benefitted from international protection or equivalent national protection before 24 February 2022.

In addition:

- it is necessary to have submitted, by virtue of the above status, an application for a residence permit for temporary protection of annual duration to the Italian prefectures and police stations after 14 March 2022.

Applicants who meet these requirements may apply for grants for humanitarian reasons in an amount equivalent to the cost of the course. All interested parties are kindly requested to fill in and submit the form at the bottom of the page. They will then receive an email to the address indicated in which the methods of participation will be explained and further information will be requested from the candidates. Each applicant must have a personal email address.

Applications received by 15th April will be reviewed, and eligible candidates will be contacted to participate in the free Italian courses.

The Italian courses are intended for people who do not have any knowledge of Italian (pre-A1 level – absolute beginner) and are reserved for adults.

All courses will be held in person at the headquarters of the five Dante Alighieri Society schools in Italy (Rome, Milan, Florence, Bologna and Turin) and include lessons twice a week totalling 32 hours. The lessons will start in mid-April (more information on the start of the lessons will be communicated to the successful candidates).

The scholarships will be awarded until capacity at the Italian Dante Schools is reached and until there are no more spaces to be allocated by the Dante Alighieri Society.
